that we are
each tooth an infinite word
unconscious and inherently
reaching.
devastating, jagged edges
formed of unhearing,
the cacophony of selves
buckling and distorting.
devastating, the beauty
that comes with Time,
soul of audibility,
awakened peregrination
through quiet

This is beautiful.

words doing damage, when silence heals best. the images you create keep mixing up in my head, zipper, teeth and words all like they came from the same root. this is a wonderful piece Vanessa

The world is so loud, and no one hears! The tribalism going on, sad times! And I reflect on my marriage too, the wisdom with age, learning to hear.
I struggled thinking I’d emphasise the paradox more, of the zip working better with age. But in the end, I stayed with this.
Thanks so much lovely friend.

the wisdom that comes with and experience Vanessa, learning to hear is so important, i always tell my kids listen with your heart not with your ears, indeed you are so right, the world is so loud.
whichever way you would have written this the zipper was going to be so symbolic
hugs to you too dear

A beautiful philosophical piece, Vanessa. I like the audio aspects; I sometimes think ( if it is quiet enough, haha) that, in near-to-silence, such as meditating, we hear the sounds of distance, our horizon is expanded, and we can step outside ourselves.

Thank you Steve!
(I would have responded earlier but I am having issues on my tablet with the dashboard thingy not showing.)
And yes! And hopefully learn to see and hear others with more clarity. And ourselves! So much of the time people are just waiting to speak, or yell…
Marriage, and being in the life we have been in with Darrin as a pastor, (sometimes I join him when he is doing marriage/relationship counselling, and just so you have an accurate idea about that, we can be pretty honest about how badly we have done marriage at times haha which is so important. I’m probably more transparent in some ways eg. DON’T DO THIS LIKE WE DID! lol), it intrigues me the differences in the way men and women think. How bad we can be at paying attention to that, when we could learn really fascinating and helpful things instead. It saddens me that such discussions can become so uncivil so easily. But that is another conversation and I have to go.
Hope all is well with you and your universe? π

You’re very welcome, Vanessa and thank you for your valuable insights into relationships, which I agree with completely. I tend to oscillate between the men and women actually come from different planets point of view and the (possibly marginally more accurate) view that recognising some fundamental differences in ways of thinking could go a long way towards building bridges when they are needed. My son and daughter are so the same and so different, and I can’t even come close to defining it.
All is good, thanks for asking, the normal drift towards the universal heat death of Everything that is and could be. Also, I’ve given up apologising about late replies because it would be endless, much like my apologies in real life. π

Yes, so the same and so different. I agree about recognizing fundamental differences…plus, it’s fascinating.
Oh, late reply apologies unnecessary here! You’re in good company π
