that hauntingly beautiful space is yours”, he mournfully willed her to understand.
The bright lights were off, but he could see her much better that way. He always lived with the hope her sight would adjust to the light of the time they were in, and she would fill her space, smiling, wiping the flower crumbs from her mouth, helping him water the new perennials they had planted.
Lyrics:
Everybody wants the same thing
Everybody wants the same thing
To see another birthday
Look at all the pretty numbers
Look at all the pretty numbers
Scattered on the calendars
I can see my reflection
I can see my reflection
In the shop window
Who owns that space
Declare it if you dare tonight
Don’t let the moment pass
Until another day
Bright lights dissolve
Like sugar deep inside you now
It all ends up the same somehow
I’m hardly here at all
All the trash and the treasure
All the trash and the treasure
All the pain and the pleasure
Taste the edible flowers
Taste the edible flowers
Scattered over the salad days
Who owns that space
Declare it if you dare tonight
Don’t let the moment pass
Until another day
Bright lights dissolve
Like sugar deep inside you now
And still the rain keeps coming down
I’m hardly here at all
And everything’s gone quiet now
I’m hardly here at all

I love these little scenes you set. They’re brilliant, absurd often, and always awesome. In writing you are a spacecraft that travels thru celestial glory and lands with an earthy and fun presence.

Watt, how I adore this comment!! Thank you so much, I’m kind of speechless…
Once again, I was so inspired by this gorgeous arrangement of a song I have liked for a while.

I think I wrote a comment in response to this one too. I’ll say it again:
Is it really that easy for you to be inspired and write by music. I swear if a song inspires me, I just end up writing it’s lyrics. ๐

Hey Watt! I was at your site earlier but I haven’t had time to say anything yet, so I will be back later ๐

And yes…music opens worlds to me. And I think you might be selling yourself just a tad short.
But I also really admire the fact that you can just spring out your surreal constructions without such inspiration ๐ It is so satisfying to write to create a world without outside influence. I enjoy both so much.

* I mean, without immediate outside influence, because obviously we are all influenced by a myriad of things sub consciously…

Originality is definitely not the case here. I think I can’t write under inspiration from music, until it becomes a chaotic part of me, and basically is another aspect instead of a piece. I am inspired largely by movies and TV shows.

I read your pieces and find myself coming up with all sorts of interpretations, Vanessa, which is good. I don’t think any of us want to be perennials, aren’t they a bit boring? The new world, where we all fit into our boxes and smile. I’m night blind, so I do have a few problems in darkness. (Note: this is not a metaphor, although it might have been.)

Well of course, Steve, if someone is a perennial pain in the ______ , for example, I don’t want to ever encourage that lol.
She… pining for her “salad days”, and how we even interpret such things anyway…
That’s interesting to me where your mind took you, about categorisation…

I think that even something that is constantly pleasant won’t be with time. Humans need change and contrast.
With my thought on categorisation, it’s partly about me wanting to fit in and not succeeding, and then the reactivity of telling myself, “No, I don’t want to fit in.” I don’t know which is true, though; maybe both at times.

Yes, I agree, humans change and develop etc, but I meant this more about love and the way we see people, the things that can be nurtured and how. That make room for, and encourage all of that growth.
And how we see ourselves and our own lives.
Oh I see. That’s so interesting, as I didn’t really mean to imply that kind of stream of thought. Hmmm I am sorry if it came across that way. And that makes my heart hurt a little Steve, about you wanting to fit in and not succeeding… I am glad you don’t fit in, I mean, you have such unique and brilliant creativity, it’s enriched my life immensely ๐

Nothing to be sorry about, Vanessa. It was just me thinking about myself. And thank you for the very kind words. ๐ณ (I’m hoping that’s a lightly embarrassed emoji.)
